Taylor Swift has once again dominated the global music industry. Her album “The Life of a Showgirl” has officially been named the biggest-selling global album of 2025, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
This marks the second consecutive year Swift has topped the worldwide chart, following the massive success of her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.
Massive Sales Across All Formats
Released in October 2025, Swift’s 12th studio album moved an impressive 6.05 million units worldwide, combining physical sales, digital downloads and streaming.
The album didn’t just lead one ranking — it dominated across multiple categories:
- No. 1 on the IFPI Global Album Chart
- No. 1 on the Global Album Sales Chart
- No. 1 on the Global Vinyl Album Chart
Swift also broke her own vinyl sales record for the fourth consecutive year, highlighting her unmatched influence in physical music sales.
Record-Breaking Chart Performance

Upon release, The Life of a Showgirl spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, proving its long-term popularity.
The album also delivered the largest opening week in Billboard 200 history by equivalent album units, earning 4.002 million units. The previous record holder was Adele’s 25 (2015), which debuted with 3.482 million units.
Earlier in the week, Swift also topped IFPI’s Global Artist Chart, reinforcing her position as the world’s most dominant music star.

Other Top Albums of 2025
While Swift led the pack, several major artists also ranked highly on the global charts.
Top entries on the IFPI Global Album Chart included:
- Morgan Wallen — I’m The Problem
- K Pop Demon Hunters — Original Soundtrack
- Bad Bunny — DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS
- Sabrina Carpenter — Short n’ Sweet
The rankings highlight the global diversity of music consumption, with strong representation from country, Latin, pop and K-pop.
Rise of Non-Western Artists in Physical Sales
Outside of Swift’s dominance, the Global Album Sales Chart was largely driven by non-Western acts — particularly from Asia.
K-pop artists performed strongly, including:
- Stray Kids (KARMA)
- SEVENTEEN (HAPPY BURSTDAY)
- ENHYPEN (DESIRE: UNLEASH)
The trend reflects the continued strength of physical album markets in countries like South Korea, Japan and China.
Streaming vs Vinyl Trends
While Swift ruled overall sales and vinyl, the Global Streaming Album Chart told a slightly different story.
Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem topped streaming consumption worldwide, followed by releases from Bad Bunny, SZA, Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga.
Meanwhile, Swift still landed inside the streaming Top 10, showing her cross-platform appeal.
Vinyl sales remained a major force, with classic albums from Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd and The Beatles continuing to sell strongly decades after release.
Swift’s Unmatched Global Dominance
With back-to-back years at No. 1 globally, record-breaking sales and continued chart success, Taylor Swift’s influence shows no signs of slowing down.
Her ability to dominate streaming, physical sales and vinyl simultaneously places her in a category few artists have ever reached.
