Amazon’s Prime Video has officially confirmed that Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner will take on the role of the legendary adventurer Lara Croft in its upcoming Tomb Raider series. The project, from creator, writer, and co-showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), is set to begin production on January 19, 2026.
Turner follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who previously portrayed Croft on the big screen. This marks the first live-action television adaptation of the beloved video game franchise.
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” Turner said. “She’s such an iconic character who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands.”
Waller-Bridge echoed the excitement:
“It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara… Get your artifacts out — Croft is coming.”

- Phoebe Waller-Bridge: Creator, writer, and co-showrunner
- Chad Hodge (Good Behavior, Single All the Way): Co-showrunner
- Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shogun): Director & executive producer
- Produced by: Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Story Kitchen
Additional executive producers include Jenny Robins, Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television.
Beyond her iconic role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, Turner has recently appeared in The Staircase (HBO Max) and the ITV/CW miniseries Joan. With Tomb Raider, she steps into one of the most iconic roles in gaming and pop culture history.
The Tomb Raider series is expected to deliver high-scale adventure, mystery, and action while introducing a fresh take on Lara Croft’s story for both long-time fans and new audiences. With Waller-Bridge’s creative vision and Turner’s star power, anticipation for the show is already sky-high.
