Katherine LaNasa’s first Emmy Awards experience came with a special guiding hand from her longtime friend, Sarah Paulson.

While attending the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program Luncheon on Sept. 16, Paulson revealed that she offered LaNasa advice ahead of the Sept. 14 ceremony, helping her stay grounded through the high-pressure event.
“She calls me her Emmys coach because I’ve been really fortunate to have gone and run that gauntlet a couple of times, and I’ve won and I’ve lost,” Paulson, 50, told PEOPLE.
Paulson explained that her guidance echoed advice once shared with her by Jamie Lee Curtis: “Be where your feet are.” She passed that mantra along to LaNasa as she prepared for the night.
“It’s this beautiful chain of women sharing with other women the things they’ve learned,” Paulson said.
Katherine LaNasa’s Big Emmy Night
LaNasa, 58, had more than just a memorable evening—she walked away with the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award for her portrayal of nurse Dana Evans in HBO Max’s The Pitt.

In her emotional acceptance speech, LaNasa thanked producer John Wells for “elevating everything,” praised her co-star Noah Wyle, and honored the nurses who inspired her character. She also gave heartfelt thanks to her children and her husband, actor Grant Show.
“I feel like I already won because you never un-become an Emmy-nominated actress,” LaNasa said. “It’s really a lovely stamp of approval from your peers.”
Reflecting on her unexpected journey, she added:
“You stay on the sidelines for so much of your career, you don’t really ever expect to be one of the nominees. To be one is just delightful. I feel like I got a ticket to ride and I’m happy about it.”
Following its critically acclaimed first season, The Pitt is currently streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 of the medical drama premieres in January.
