Mandy Moore Opens the Doors to Her Restored Altadena Home One Year After L.A. Wildfires

One year after devastating wildfires nearly destroyed her family’s home, Mandy Moore is welcoming fans back inside.

The This Is Us alum, 41, and her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, gave a detailed tour of their restored Altadena property in a new feature with Architectural Digest, published February 11.

The couple’s 1931 Spanish Colonial Revival home, which they purchased in 2020, had been undergoing a

multi-year renovation when the January 2025 Eaton fire swept through their neighborhood.

Surviving the Eaton Fire

The Eaton fire was part of a broader wave of Los Angeles wildfires that displaced tens of thousands of residents and destroyed more than 1,000 structures. Moore previously shared that their Altadena neighborhood was heavily impacted.

Goldsmith recalled arriving at the property shortly after the flames passed.

“The studio was on fire in the back, the garage was already burnt down,” he said. “As the days went on, we realized our house made it.”

Although the main structure survived, smoke and fire damage forced the family to discard nearly all “soft goods,” including furniture, rugs, and clothing. The couple and their three children — sons Gus, 4, Ozzie, 3, and daughter Lou, 1 — relocated to a rental home for nine months while rebuilding.

‘We’re Not Leaving’

For Moore, rebuilding wasn’t just about restoring walls — it was about honoring community.

“I think what initially lured us to Altadena is the spirit of the community here,” she said. “We’re not leaving. We’re digging in deep. We’re rebuilding what we lost.”

She grew emotional recalling a neighbor who lost his entire home in the blaze yet told her he was grateful theirs survived after years of renovation work.

“The grace that somebody who just lost their entire life would have for their neighbor is just beyond,” Moore said. “That speaks to what this community is.”

A Softer, Warmer Family Home

Working alongside designer Sarah Sherman Samuel and architect Emily Farnham, the couple completed a thoughtful restoration and moved back in last September.

Moore describes the refreshed interior as:

  • Softer and warmer
  • More colorful and playful
  • “Less precious” — in the best way

Goldsmith added that they intentionally designed the space to “age gracefully” with their growing family.

“We knew we were coming into this house with children,” he said. “We didn’t know how many at the time — turns out it was three.”

Favorite Spaces Inside the Home

While much of the layout remains intact, certain elements were updated post-fire, including new lounge chairs and refreshed upholstery in the living room.

One of the couple’s favorite rooms is a cozy screening room — which Goldsmith also treats as his personal library — lined with built-in shelves showcasing his prized first-edition books.

The children’s shared bedroom is another highlight, featuring custom bunk beds that made returning home especially exciting after months away.

Reimagining the Backyard

Outside, the backyard required careful restoration. Though parts were heavily damaged, the pool survived the fire.

The couple added:

  • A wraparound step design for the pool
  • An outdoor shower
  • Updated landscaping

“Everything we lost in the fire was primarily back here,” Moore said. “Thank goodness the pool remained intact.”

A Home Reclaimed

After years of renovation — followed by months of uncertainty — Moore and Goldsmith say the house finally feels complete.

More than just a rebuild, the project represents resilience, community support, and a fresh start for their family.
