Breezy Johnson Gets Engaged After Boyfriend Proposes at Olympics Finish Line

Olympic gold medalist Breezy Johnson added another unforgettable moment to her 2026 Winter Games — a surprise proposal right at the finish line.

Five days after claiming gold in the women’s downhill, the 30-year-old skier said “yes” to boyfriend Connor Watkins in a heartfelt scene that unfolded in the snow on Thursday, Feb. 12.

A Finish Line Surprise

Moments after competing in the women’s Super-G — a race that ended in a crash and early exit — Johnson walked into an emotional surprise. Watkins stepped forward, knelt in the snow, and presented a ring along with a wooden plaque engraved with a lyric from Taylor Swift’s song “The Alchemy”:

“Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy.”

A visibly emotional Johnson accepted as spectators erupted in cheers. She later showed off the ring, which features a curved band and a striking blue gemstone.

Watkins told NBC he had been planning the proposal for a year and had hoped to pull it off in the finish area. The moment, he said, exceeded every expectation.

A Dream Engagement

Johnson later admitted she had always imagined getting engaged at the Olympics.

“I may have told him that I just always kind of had the dream of getting engaged at the Olympics,” she shared. “But it’s so much more surreal than I imagined — and even better.”

The couple planned to celebrate with friends and family in Cortina before heading to Livigno to continue watching events at the 2026 Games.

A Comeback Story

Johnson’s engagement caps off a remarkable Olympic run. She captured gold in the women’s downhill, completing a redemption arc after a crash on the same course prevented her from competing at the 2022 Beijing Games.

She also secured a first-place finish in the team combined event earlier in the week, competing alongside Mikaela Shiffrin, though the duo ultimately finished just outside medal position after the slalom leg.

Despite the ups and downs, Johnson is savoring every moment.

“There’s nothing better than doing well and having somebody to share it with,” she said.

For Johnson, the 2026 Winter Olympics delivered both gold and a lifetime memory — proving that sometimes, the most powerful victories happen off the podium.
