Amazon Head Of Sports Jay Marine Adds U.S. Business Oversight; Albert Cheng Takes On New AI-Focused Role

Mike Hopkins, who heads Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, has updated the responsibilities of two key executives: Jay Marine and Albert Cheng.

Jay Marine, formerly the global head of sports and advertising, is now also in charge of the U.S. Prime Video business. This new, expanded role means he will oversee U.S. subscriptions and the platform’s focus on offering a wide range of content, including other streaming services. He will continue to lead Amazon’s global sports and advertising efforts.

Albert Cheng, the former head of Prime Video U.S., is moving to a new position focused on AI. According to a company memo from Hopkins, Cheng will now lead the development of new AI tools for creative partners. His goal is to empower filmmakers and showrunners to create innovative content using AI. Hopkins mentioned that this initiative will allow Amazon to “push boundaries” and potentially create a new kind of storytelling for its customers.

These changes were made to support two of Amazon’s main goals: creating bigger, more efficient leadership roles and embracing the rapid advancements of AI.

The new roles will be fully in place within the next few weeks. The company believes that using AI will speed up the way they work and open up new opportunities for creating and distributing entertainment and sports.

Cheng has been with Amazon for a decade, holding various roles, including COO. Marine, a longtime Amazon employee, has been leading the company’s sports efforts since 2022, securing major rights like the NFL, WNBA, and, most recently, the NBA.
